Footprints is the first release from solo artist Carl Smith. The sound is a melting pot of influences from Indie, Breakbeat and Electronica woven together with themes of experimentation and Psychedelia. Footprints stems from an idea of walking a sonic journey or path which has taken many years to come to fruition. The sound is created from an minimal electronic setup based around drum machine, synths with live guitar and a bunch of effects. Sounds are heavily layered to trigger accidental phasing, creating an almost organic quality within which the sonic space of guitar and synth become blurred dancing and diving in and out of phase. The aim is to achieve an immersive and complex soundscape with the energy spontaneity of a live performance. These tracks (originally a promo) are recorded from a simple feed directly from the live setup and thus remain as true as possible to the solo jam sessions from which they originated.
